February 11, 2008. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Darte as Program Director for Encore. Emily joined us in November, but was already working with us at that time, serving as the Head Coach for the Rock Canyon High School gymnastics team, training out of Encore. Since her official arrival, Emily has been teaching everything from pre-school through team programs. Now she will be responsible for revision and expansion of the curriculum and a variety of other operational and marketing activities in addition to her coaching responsibilities.
February 9, 2008. Our USAG Optional Team competition season is off to a great start. The team’s most recent competition was the Paige Smith Invitational hosted by CGI at Denver University on February 9. Under the direction of Emily Darte, the team had a successful weekend. Bela Schuler (level 7), Melissa Fresques (level 8) and Alexandra Hermanson (level 8) all had a great meet. Melissa won the level 8 all-around in her division and Alex finished fourth. Great job girls!
The girls are looking forward to their next competition on February 23 at 5280 in Wheatridge. Bela will be competing at 1:30 pm, while Melissa and Alex will compete at 6:00 pm. A complete schedule of competition is available at the gym.

Optional Team Update
February 10, 2008. A new bulletin board has been mounted in the "cubby room". It is open to all parents to post items that may be of interest to other parents. This could include business cards, "For Sale" notices. "Looking For" inquiries, car pool needs or whatever you would like to share with other parents. Just be sure to clear any transaction notices as soon as you have been successful in your request.
February 1, 2008. The Eagle team is preparing for a competitive season that begins in late March. We currently have 17 girls on the team, under the direction of coach Alyssa Saunders. The team performs at various competitive levels. Our Level 4 team consists of 8 girls and our Optional team consists of 9 girls. We will keep you updated as the season progresses.
The purpose of the Eagles team league is to provide a low-pressure, positive meet experience for beginning gymnastics competitors at a reasonable cost to their parents. Our Eagle athletes have the opportunity to learn routines and compete in casual competition and still reach their full potential without making a major commitment to long practice hours.

February 12, 2008. We have been busy at the gym upgrading and adding to our gymnastics equipment. Over the holiday break we installed mirrors to aid in dance and floor exercise routines. You also may have noticed the new foam we recently added to the large pit. It has been helpful to the team girls when practicing those difficult tumbling and dismount moves. It has also been a lot of fun for our preschoolers and birthday party guests. Those youngsters are also using our new Jacob’s Ladder suspended over the pit. Very few have reached the upper end of the ladder before being rolled into the pit. I think they like that better anyway.
We also recently added to our boys’ equipment. A new pommel horse has been installed, as well as a "mushroom" to assist in pommel horse and other training. Ceiling mounted rings are coming soon.
