April 7, 2008. As the optional season comes to a close, we would like to recognize the girls’ achievements. All of our girls, Alex Hermanson, Bela Schuler, Melissa Fresques, and Ali Sunshine qualified for the State Meet. Melissa Fresques had a great season winning many all around competitions. Alex Hermanson finished sixth in the state for level 8 on uneven bars with her highest score on that event this season. Bela Schuler tied for fourteenth in the state for level 7 all around. She scored her highest scores of the season on beam, vault, and floor. Ali Sunshine, who joined us mid season, finished out her season with fantastic scores on bars and vault.
Successful Optional Season
April 21, 2008. The Encore Eagles are ready to start their competitive season, with their first event on April 26 in Monument. “The girls have been practicing hard” says head coach Alyssa Saunders, “and we are confident of a successful season.” There are nine team members who will be competing on the Level 4 compulsory team. Another seven girls will compete at the Optional 7 level and one will compete in the Open Optional level. The season culminates with the State meet scheduled in Vail the weekend of June 14-15. If you want to cheer them on, a schedule of events will be posted at the gym.

Eagles Spring into Action
March 25, 2008. Photojournalist Dan Weaver recently visited Encore to film a special feature segment for 9News. The feature will focus on our adopted Chinese students who have a unique interest in the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Students Samantha Flower, Kaysi Koslov, Emma Cady and Avery Wong were interviewed and filmed in action. Some of the parents were also interviewed. The piece is currently in editing and is expected to receive its first airing in May in conjunction with NBC’s promotion of the Summer Games. There has also been some national interest in the story by NBC Sports.
